Historic girls’ Sports Gala returns to Lahore after 26 years

In a landmark event, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore hosted the “Inter-Board Girls Sports Gala” after a gap of 26 years, bringing together young athletes from across the country. Ten teams representing various educational boards of Pakistan participated in this vibrant sporting extravaganza.

The event was officially inaugurated by Punjab’s Provincial Minister for Education, Rana Sikandar Hayat, who kicked off the games himself. The ceremony also saw the presence of senior officials, including IBCC Chairman Bashir Mulla, Special Secretary for Higher Education Rana Tajamul Hussain, Additional Secretary Boards Noman Jamil, Lahore Board Secretary Rizwan Nazir, and IBCC Lahore Director Usman.

Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced significant cash prizes to encourage the players, with the first position receiving Rs. 200,000, second Rs. 100,000, and third Rs. 50,000. Children who performed in special cultural presentations were also awarded cash prizes. During the gala, students expressed their desire to meet the Chief Minister of Punjab. Minister Hayat assured them that their meeting with the Chief Minister would be arranged soon.

Speaking at the event, Lahore Board Secretary Rizwan Nazir said, “It is a great honor for Lahore Board to host such a high-profile event after 26 years. We are also planning to organize the Inter-Board Boys Sports Gala shortly.” Minister Hayat emphasized, “Our goal is to provide equal opportunities for female students in sports so they can excel not only academically but also bring recognition to the country in the field of sports.”

The event marked a significant milestone in promoting girls’ sports in Pakistan, showcasing talent, enthusiasm, and the spirit of healthy competition.
