Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari met to discuss strengthening the working relationship between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), with both sides agreeing to continue the consultative process.
According to sources, senior leaders from both parties were also present during the meeting. The discussion focused on the overall political, economic, and security situation in the country.
The two leaders held consultations on key national matters, including internal security issues and the election of the new President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources further said that the situation in Gaza and Pakistan’s stance on the proposed Gaza Peace Board were also discussed during the meeting.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will attend the inaugural Gaza Board of Peace meeting in Washington next week. The Pakistan Foreign Office confirmed their participation on Thursday. Officials said Pakistan is joining the summit in good faith.
There is also a possibility of a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the summit. The Pakistani delegation plans to use the platform to emphasize support for Palestinian self-determination. They will call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a sustainable political solution based on international law.
Ahead of the summit, Pakistan has stepped up its diplomatic engagement in the region. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar held separate phone conversations with his counterparts in Turkey and Iran. Officials said these talks reflect Islamabad’s efforts to maintain a proactive diplomatic posture amid shifting regional dynamics.
