A court in Islamabad has approved bail for Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in seven different cases, including allegations related to the Toshakhana matter and protest incidents.
The decision was announced by Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka during a hearing at the District and Sessions Court Islamabad. The court approved pre-arrest bail for six cases against Imran Khan and one case against Bushra Bibi after both submitted surety bonds of Rs50,000 each.
According to prosecutors, there is strong evidence against the couple, and they argued that bail should not be granted. The cases include charges linked to the May 9 unrest, the Azadi March, attempted murder, vandalism, arson, and alleged fake receipts connected to Toshakhana gifts. A separate case against Bushra Bibi over similar allegations is registered at a local police station in the federal capital.
Defense lawyer Salman Safdar told the court that there had been unusual delays in the proceedings, claiming that dozens of adjournments were granted to the state and that prison authorities failed to present his client despite court orders. He also argued that the bail request was based on legal merit rather than medical grounds.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court approved the interim bail applications, allowing the couple legal relief in the cases for now.
