Authorities have temporarily suspended the ongoing crackdown against undocumented Afghan nationals in Peshawar following the closure of the Torkham border, official sources confirmed.
According to government officials, the decision was taken due to logistical complications caused by the border shutdown. Police units have been formally instructed not to arrest undocumented Afghan residents until further orders are issued.
The move comes as part of a broader administrative adjustment while cross-border movement remains restricted. Officials indicated that enforcement actions in the provincial capital will resume once the border situation stabilizes.
However, enforcement operations continue in other parts of the country. Security agencies reported that at least 73 undocumented Afghan nationals were detained during coordinated operations in Islamabad and several adjoining districts.
Authorities said the actions were carried out in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree, Jhelum and Chakwal as part of an ongoing nationwide drive to identify and process foreign nationals residing illegally in Pakistan. Screening procedures and verification of identity documents are currently underway.
Law enforcement officials emphasized that the campaign is being conducted under established legal frameworks. Alongside immigration-related checks, police teams are also pursuing proclaimed offenders and conducting operations linked to narcotics and illegal weapons recovery.
