The defamation clash between singer-actress Meesha Shafi and musician Ali Zafar intensified in court as Meesha’s lawyer, Saqib Gilani, began presenting her final arguments.
During the hearing before Additional Sessions Judge Asif Hayat Bajwa, the defence challenged Ali Zafar’s claims, arguing that no concrete evidence had been presented to support the defamation suit.
Gilani emphasised that the case was wasting the court’s time and highlighted Meesha’s efforts to resolve matters privately, including her prior attempts to step back from projects to avoid conflict. The session continues as both sides make their final points in this high-profile legal battle.
The defence further stated that the lawsuit had resulted in nothing more than a waste of judicial time. Highlighting the background of the parties involved, Gilani noted that Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi’s families had longstanding relations prior to the dispute.
According to the defence, Meesha Shafi had reported two separate incidents of alleged harassment and had remained consistent in her stance despite hours of cross-examination by Ali Zafar’s legal team.
The lawyer also told the court that before making the matter public, Meesha Shafi had attempted to resolve the issue privately. He claimed that she had sent a message to Ali Zafar, stating that she could no longer work with him and asking him to step back from a project.
Gilani further urged the court to dismiss Ali Zafar’s claims with fines. Meesha Shafi’s mother, Saba Pervez, was present during the proceedings.
Later, the court hearing was adjourned until Thursday.
