Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday directed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to provide complete assistance to the law-enforcement agencies engaged in deporting the foreigners living illegally in the country.
Chairing a high-level meeting during his visit to the NADRA’s headquarters in Islamabad, he also directed that those foreigners who had managed to get Pakistani citizenship through illegal means should be immediately identified and their names be struck off the national database.
The minister said that an improvement had been noticed in the performance of NADRA during the last two years.
He also directed that the Authority’s state-of-the-art offices should not be housed in rented buildings, but plots should be purchased for the purpose.
In this regard, Naqvi also sought a masterplan from the concerned officials.
NADRA Chairman Lt General Muhammad Munir Afsar, on the occasion, briefed the minister about the services being offered by the Authority and the ongoing projects as well as those to be launched in future.
He was told that NADRA had taken several measures to provide facilities to citizens.
Naqvi was informed that computerized national identity cards (CNICs) of millions of people who had passed away had been cancelled.
“Besides that, a duration of 30 days has been set for the resolution of issues related to the CNICs,” Lt Gen Afsar said, adding that in collaboration with the PTA, mobile phone SIMs issued in the names of dead persons were being blocked.
Director General FIA Dr Usman Anwar and senior NADRA officials were also present on the occasion.
