Govt won’t allow any undue rise in educational fees: NA told

National Assembly was informed today that the government is taking a number of steps to meet the current and future market demands with regard to Artificial Intelligence, information technology and digital skills.

This was stated by Parliamentary Secretary of Information Technology Sabheen Ghoury while responding to a question during the Question Hour in the House. She said ninety percent of startups became functional in Software Technology Parks. She said around thirty-six percent of them are women.

The Parliamentary Secretary further informed that over four point five million people have been registered on the DigiSkills Program since 2018.

She said the Ministry of Information and Technology has been actively engaging with international partners for capacity building.

Answering another question, the Parliamentary Secretary said that Pakistan’s IT exports witnessed an unprecedented surge, reaching three point eight billion dollars during the last fiscal year.

She said the growth is bolstered by a thriving community of freelancers whose remittances have become a cornerstone of the digital economy. Sabheen Ghoury said the successful 5G spectrum auction this year will provide a digital highway to further boost the IT exports.

Responding to a calling attention notice, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Wajiha Qamar said strict action will be taken against any undue rise in educational fees in the Islamabad Capital Territory. The House will now meet tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.

Replying to another question, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the Benazir Hunarmand Programme under BISP aims to empower women and their families by equipping them with market-driven vocational skills to enhance employment opportunities.
