JI launches nationwide protests over fuel price hike

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan has announced a countrywide protest movement in response to the recent surge in petroleum prices, terming the increase as a heavy burden on the public.

Addressing the situation, party leadership criticized the sharp rise in fuel costs, describing it as unjust and inflationary, with significant impacts on low- and middle-income groups. The party argued that successive increases in petrol prices have intensified economic pressure on commuters, workers, students, and small businesses.

The leadership further stated that rising fuel prices are contributing to an overall increase in the cost of living, as transport and goods prices continue to climb. It also expressed concern over additional taxation measures and existing levies, saying they add to public hardship rather than provide relief.

Calling for immediate action, the party urged the government to reconsider its pricing policies and ease the financial strain on citizens. It also emphasized that resources should be prioritized toward public welfare rather than expenditures perceived as non-essential.

The protest campaign is set to begin nationwide, with the party mobilizing supporters and workers to participate. Party officials have called on citizens, particularly the youth, to actively join the movement and voice their concerns against rising economic pressures.

The announcement comes amid broader public discontent following recent increases in fuel prices, which have triggered reactions across political and social circles throughout Pakistan.
