Imran Ashraf’s drama under fire for controversial nurse remark

The popular dama Ghulam Bashah Sundri has landed in hot water after a dialogue in episode 24 offended the nursing community.

In a scene, the character Ghulam jokingly remarked that his expensive phone, misplaced in the operating theater, could likely be stolen by a nurse.

What may have been intended as light humor struck a nerve with viewers, particularly medical professionals.

Nurses and healthcare workers took to social media to express their dismay, calling the remark disrespectful and insulting. “It is humiliating to call nurses thieves on national television,” one viewer wrote.

While another added, “Disrespecting nurses is disrespecting humanity itself. They work when others rest and care when others walk away.” Some viewers even admitted they stopped watching the show in protest.

The backlash highlights the sensitive responsibility that creators have when representing real-life professions. While Ghulam Bashah Sundri continues to enjoy strong TRPs and fan engagement, this controversial dialogue has sparked debate about the line between drama, humour and respect.

The series stars Imran Ashraf as Ghulam, a doctor; Zaviyar Nauman as Bashah, an affluent landlord; and Hina Afridi as Sundri, a young woman who falls in love with Ghulam.

With 26 episodes aired so far, the show remains a fan favorite, but this controversy has added an unexpected layer of tension to its success.
