KARACHI: Multan Sultans have granted opening batter Sahibzada Farhan a short break from the squad as the team prepares for their upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 showdown against Peshawar Zalmi at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on April 13.
The franchise confirmed that the decision is part of its internal workload management and player welfare policy, designed to ensure cricketers remain physically fresh and mentally prepared during the demanding tournament schedule.
According to team officials, the policy allows players to take short periods of rest during gaps in the competition, helping them recover from continuous high-intensity matches. The management believes this approach reduces fatigue and improves long-term performance across the season.
A spokesperson for Multan Sultans said the decision reflects the team’s commitment to maintaining balance within the squad under the leadership of owner Gohar Shah and head coach Tim Paine. The franchise has consistently emphasized the importance of mental well-being alongside on-field performance.
“As per the policy, players are given complete freedom to relax and spend personal time during rest periods,” the spokesperson stated, highlighting the franchise’s modern approach to workload distribution.
Alongside Farhan, batting coach Sohaib Maqsood has also been temporarily released from team duties under the same arrangement, further reinforcing the franchise’s focus on rest and recovery.
Despite the short break, Farhan’s performances have been one of the standout highlights of PSL 11 so far. The right-handed opener has been in exceptional form, currently sitting among the tournament’s leading run-scorers.
He has accumulated 232 runs in just five matches, maintaining an impressive average of 58.00 and a striking strike rate of 181.25. His record includes a century and a half-century, underlining his consistency and explosive batting style at the top of the order.
Farhan’s contributions have played a crucial role in Multan Sultans’ strong start to the season. Under the captaincy of Ashton Turner, the team has won four out of five matches, collecting eight points and sitting comfortably near the top of the table with a healthy net run rate.
With momentum firmly on their side, the Sultans will be hoping that the squad rotation policy keeps their key players fresh for the business end of the tournament. Farhan’s return is expected to further strengthen their already dominant batting lineup as PSL 11 continues to intensify.
