Israel’s military chief has stated that the country remains in a “state of war” in southern Lebanon, confirming that its forces are continuing military operations despite ongoing tensions in the region.
During a visit to southern Lebanon near Bint Jbeil, Chief of General Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Israeli forces are not observing a ceasefire on the northern front and remain actively engaged on the ground.
He further warned that although a ceasefire is currently in place with Iran, Israel could resume military operations there “at any moment” with full intensity if required.
The remarks come amid intensified Israeli strikes in Lebanon, which have reportedly resulted in heavy casualties and widespread damage. Lebanese authorities say hundreds have been killed and over a thousand injured since the escalation began.
Israeli officials also accused Hezbollah of using civilian infrastructure, including ambulances, for military purposes, warning that such facilities could become targets if their alleged misuse continues.
Meanwhile, cross-border rocket fire from Lebanon into northern Israel has triggered sirens, power outages, and damage in several towns, including Misgav Am, Metula, and Kiryat Shmona. Some rockets were intercepted, while others struck residential and industrial areas.
Pezeshkian strongly condemned Israel’s recent strikes in Lebanon, calling them a “clear violation” of ongoing ceasefire efforts and a dangerous signal for regional peace.
Speaking at a massive gathering marking the 40th-day commemoration of Ali Khamenei, the Iranian president warned that continued military actions could render diplomatic negotiations meaningless. Addressing thousands of supporters in Tehran, Pezeshkian declared that “attacks on Lebanon undermine trust and show a lack of commitment to peace agreements.”
His remarks come at a critical time when fragile ceasefire talks are underway to ease escalating tensions between Israel and regional actors. Iran, a long-time supporter of Lebanon’s resistance groups, reaffirmed its stance, with Pezeshkian stating that Tehran “will not abandon the people of Lebanon in their time of need.”
