Tennis legend Bjorn Borg to visit Pakistan this month

The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has announced that tennis legend Bjorn Borg will visit Pakistan during the ITF Men’s Futures Tournament series scheduled from April 26 to 10 May 10 in Islamabad, it was reported on Friday.

Borg, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in tennis history, is scheduled to attend the tournament alongside his wife and two sons.

The former world number one, who dominated the sport during the late 1970s and early 1980s, held the top ranking for 109 weeks and secured 11 Grand Slam titles, including six French Open crowns and five consecutive Wimbledon Championships titles.

PTF officials said the tournament is expected to feature more than 200 international players, making it one of the largest tennis events hosted by Pakistan.

Borg’s presence is being viewed as a major boost for the country’s efforts to revive international sports and inspire young athletes.

PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi said the federation is making comprehensive arrangements to ensure the successful hosting of both the event and the high-profile visit.

“This visit will further strengthen Pakistan’s image on the global sporting stage,” Qureshi said, adding that the increasing arrival of international personalities shows growing confidence in the country’s security and stability.

The visit is expected to serve as a source of inspiration for emerging players and reinforce Pakistan’s push to re-establish itself as a host of major international sporting events.
