The Election Commission on Saturday said that polling in general elections for the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Assembly would be held on June 7, 2026.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Raja Shahbaz Khan made the announcement.
He said that the elections would be held under the Elections Act, 2017 and GB Order 2018.
The notification was sent to the Pakistan Gazette for the publication.
General elections for the assembly were scheduled to be held on January 24, 2026. However, days after the announcement, the polls were postponed indefinitely due to harsh weather conditions in the region.
According to an official statement, the decision was taken after an all-parties conference (APC) convened by the Election Commission to review the situation in light of worsening weather and its potential impact on the electoral process.
During the meeting, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supported holding the elections on January 24.
However, representatives of 13 other political parties opposed going ahead with polls under the current circumstances.
