António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, personally called Ishaq Dar to commend Pakistan’s diplomatic role in hosting talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad.
During the conversation, Guterres acknowledged Pakistan’s active efforts to promote peace and stability in a highly sensitive region. He specifically appreciated Islamabad’s initiative in facilitating dialogue aimed at easing tensions and working toward a ceasefire between Washington and Tehran.
The UN chief emphasized that ongoing conflicts in the Middle East cannot be resolved through military means. He stressed the urgent need to resume meaningful and structured negotiations, urging all parties to respect international maritime rights and ensure freedom of navigation.
Guterres also reaffirmed the United Nations’ full support for Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement and peace-building efforts, recognizing the country as a constructive player in regional and global stability.
In response, Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continuing dialogue and diplomacy as the primary tools for conflict resolution. He highlighted Pakistan’s determination to work with international partners to reduce tensions and promote long-term peace in the region.
