PCB, Cricket Australia in talks over ODI series in Pakistan

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket Australia (CA) are in advanced discussions to finalise the schedule for Australia’s upcoming white-ball tour of Pakistan, with plans taking shape for a three-match One Day International (ODI) series later this year.

According to sources, both boards are working closely to settle venues and dates, with Australia expected to arrive in Pakistan in the final week of May. The series is tentatively scheduled between May 31 and June 5.

If confirmed, Rawalpindi is likely to host one match, while Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium is expected to stage the remaining two fixtures, bringing top-level international cricket back to major Pakistani venues during a busy home season.

The proposed series would continue the recent momentum in cricketing ties between the two nations. Australia last toured Pakistan earlier this year in January, when they played a three-match T20 International series that drew strong fan interest and high broadcast viewership.

Following their Pakistan assignment, Australia are scheduled to continue their white-ball tour with a visit to Bangladesh, where the first ODI is expected to begin on June 9. This tight international calendar has added urgency to finalising the Pakistan fixtures.

For Pakistan, the upcoming home series is part of a packed international schedule. Before hosting Australia, the national team is set to tour Bangladesh for a two-match Test series in May, marking an important red-ball assignment ahead of a demanding year in international cricket.

That Test series will be Pakistan’s first in the format since their drawn home series against South Africa last year, offering an early test of form and squad depth ahead of a busy cycle.

Looking further ahead, Pakistan’s Future Tours Programme (2023–27) features several high-profile home and away assignments, including Test series against the West Indies, England, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand over the next two years.

Cricket officials in Pakistan are hopeful that successfully hosting Australia again will strengthen the country’s reputation as a reliable venue for international tours while giving fans more opportunities to witness top-tier cricket at home.

As discussions continue, an official announcement is expected once both boards finalize logistical arrangements, travel plans, and venue confirmations for what promises to be a closely followed ODI series.
