Gaza toll tops 72,500 as fresh Israeli fire kills two Palestinians

The Gaza Health Ministry has reported that two more Palestinians were killed by Israeli army fire in the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll since October 2023 to 72,553 amid the ongoing conflict.

According to the ministry’s daily update, hospitals also received 22 injured individuals during the same period. It stated that Israeli forces continue to carry out shelling and gunfire incidents despite the ceasefire that has been in place since October 2025, leading to continued casualties on the ground.

The ministry further said that 777 Palestinians have been killed and 2,193 injured since the ceasefire began on October 10, 2025. It added that the total number of wounded since the start of the war in October 2023 has reached 172,296.

The conflict began on October 8, 2023, and has resulted in widespread destruction across Gaza. Reports indicate that nearly 90 percent of civilian infrastructure has been damaged, with United Nations estimates placing reconstruction costs at around $70 billion.

In recent incidents, multiple Palestinians, including a child, were killed in separate strikes last week. Witnesses reported that some attacks occurred near areas outside designated military zones under the ceasefire arrangement.

The Israeli military has stated in previous cases that its forces responded to perceived threats near the so-called “yellow line,” which marks the boundary of Israeli withdrawal under the truce. The army says it has targeted individuals it believed were approaching military positions in a way that posed danger.

Since the withdrawal to this line, several Palestinians have been killed in similar incidents, with Israel alleging repeated attempts to cross restricted zones, while humanitarian groups continue to raise concerns over civilian safety in the area.
