Meera challenges Gen Z, says new generation “can’t compete” with veteran stars

Pakistani actress Meera has sparked discussion after issuing a bold challenge to Generation Z, claiming that younger actors cannot match the experience and performances of established stars in the industry.

The actress made the remarks during an appearance on A Podcast, where she spoke about her career, past film projects, and upcoming work in the entertainment industry.

During the conversation, Meera reflected on her collaborations in earlier films, recalling her work with actor Babar Ali in Khoye Ho Tum Kahan, which she described as a memorable experience filled with light-hearted moments on set.

She also mentioned senior industry colleagues including Samina Pirzada, Usman Pirzada, Zeeshan Sikandar, and Humayun Saeed, highlighting her long-standing connections in Pakistani cinema.

Meera noted that her film Antaha was her first project with actor Humayun Saeed, marking an important milestone in her career at the time.

In a strongly worded statement aimed at younger performers, Meera directly challenged Gen Z artists, suggesting they lack the ability to match the standards set by senior actors in the industry.

“Gen Z can’t compete with me,” she said, adding that younger creators should focus on improving their craft before comparing themselves with established names.

She further urged young talent to watch films such as “Psycho” and demonstrate whether they can produce work of similar quality.

“Compete with Meera and Shaan,” she added, referring to veteran actor Shaan Shahid. “I want you to compete with us, and we will enjoy the challenge.”

The actress’s comments have reignited conversation around the growing generational divide in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, where digital-era creators and traditional film stars increasingly occupy different creative spaces.

While Meera said experience and legacy are key markers of artistic strength, younger performers and content creators continue to expand the industry through streaming platforms and social media-driven productions.

The remarks have since circulated widely online, drawing mixed reactions from fans and industry observers, with some supporting her call for higher standards and others defending the emerging generation of artists.
