JERUSALEM: A reported plan by Israeli settler organizations to take control of around 100 strategic locations in the occupied West Bank has triggered fresh concerns about the future of the Palestinian territories and raised fears of a significant expansion of Israeli control in the region.
According to a report published by Israeli newspaper Israel Hayom, the proposal was prepared by the Settler Farms Association and the Havat Forum, two groups linked to Israel’s settlement movement. The plan reportedly seeks to establish control over dozens of strategically important sites located within Area A of the West Bank, territory that is officially administered and secured by the Palestinian Authority under the 1995 Oslo II Accord.
The report said the proposal includes a coordinated operation that would see forces deployed to nearly 100 locations on what organizers describe as an “execution day.” The targeted areas are believed to include locations surrounding major Palestinian population centers, potentially reshaping the political and geographic landscape of the occupied territory.
The reported initiative has already been presented to Israeli government ministers and individuals close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, fueling speculation about whether elements of the proposal could eventually receive official backing.
Palestinian officials reacted strongly to the report, warning that the plan represents a dangerous escalation in efforts to expand Israeli settlements across the West Bank.
Muayyad Shaaban, head of the Anti-Wall and Settlement Committee affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization, described the proposal as part of a broader strategy aimed at accelerating the annexation of Palestinian land.
According to Shaaban, the initiative should not be viewed as an isolated action by settler groups but rather as a reflection of policies pursued by successive right-wing Israeli governments. He argued that expanding settlements and increasing settler presence in sensitive areas could further weaken prospects for a negotiated two-state solution.
The West Bank has witnessed growing tensions over the past several years, with Israeli military operations, settler activity and Palestinian resistance contributing to an increasingly volatile security situation.
Palestinian figures indicate that since October 2023, more than 1,170 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, while over 12,600 have been injured. Authorities also report that approximately 23,000 Palestinians have been detained during Israeli military raids and security operations.
The latest report comes amid continuing regional tensions and ongoing international concern over settlement expansion in occupied territories. If implemented, analysts say the proposed plan could become one of the most controversial settlement initiatives in recent years, potentially drawing strong reactions from Palestinian leaders and the wider international community.
As debate over the proposal intensifies, attention is now focused on whether Israeli authorities will distance themselves from the plan or move toward adopting parts of it in the months ahead.
