Witkoff and Kushner hold talks with Qatari premier in Doha

US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and former senior adviser Jared Kushner met Qatar’s prime minister in Doha to discuss ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States, as well as the latest developments across the region, it was reported on Wednesday.

According to the Qatari Foreign Ministry, the meeting focused on a range of regional issues, including diplomatic efforts aimed at advancing dialogue between Tehran and Washington.

Qatar’s Prime Minister reiterated his country’s commitment to mediation and expressed support for negotiations being conducted in line with the memorandum of understanding agreed between the parties.

Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari confirmed on Tuesday that Witkoff and Kushner were in Doha but stressed that their visit was not specifically intended for direct negotiations with the Iranian delegation.

Speaking to AFP, Al Ansari said the two American officials were in the Qatari capital to meet mediators and senior Qatari officials. He added that discussions would cover a broad range of regional matters, including negotiations involving Iran as well as developments in Lebanon.

The talks come as technical-level discussions between Iranian and American delegations continue under Qatari mediation efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and advancing diplomatic engagement.

Iran’s delegation is being led by Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei. Baqaei said the Iranian side was expected to hold its first meeting with mediators in Doha on Wednesday.
