BNP chief Akhtar Mengal returns all salaries and allowances to Parliament

Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal has returned all salaries and allowances he received as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA), depositing the money with the National Assembly Secretariat for transfer to the national treasury.

Akhtar Mengal visited the National Assembly Secretariat on Thursday and submitted a cheque for Rs7,892,725, covering the full amount received during his time as an MNA.

Mengal also handed over a letter to the secretariat explaining his decision.

In the letter, Mengal said he was returning the salaries for the period from September 3, 2024, to February 11, 2026.

The BNP chief stated that the total amount being returned was Rs7,892,725.

He added that after resigning in September 2024, he had not withdrawn any salary or allowance from his bank account.

He asked the National Assembly Secretariat to transfer the amount held in his parliamentary bank account to the state treasury.

Mengal said he remained committed to the principles of honesty and accountability in public service.

It is worth noting that Akhtar Mengal resigned from the National Assembly on 3 September 2024 in protest against what he described as the parliament’s response to the issues of Balochistan.

His resignation from NA-256 Khuzdar was formally accepted by the Speaker of the National Assembly on 11 February 2026.
