ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi in Amman on Wednesday, with both sides discussing the deteriorating situation in the occupied West Bank and reaffirming their commitment to regional peace and cooperation.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the meeting took place on the sidelines of a ministerial conference convened to formulate a unified position on the situation in occupied Jerusalem.
The two foreign ministers exchanged views on regional developments, particularly the worsening situation in the occupied West Bank. Ishaq Dar appreciated Jordan’s role in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and its continued support for the Palestinian people.
Both leaders welcomed the growing momentum in Pakistan-Jordan relations and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in the political, defence, economic, educational, cultural and people-to-people sectors.
The ministers also discussed broader regional developments, including the recent tensions between the United States and Iran. They underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions and pledged continued coordination at bilateral and multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), to promote peace and stability.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Ishaq Dar also held talks with Somalia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali. The two sides reviewed longstanding bilateral relations and explored ways to strengthen cooperation in political, economic, defence, education and capacity-building sectors while reaffirming close coordination at multilateral forums.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan’s participation in the ministerial meeting reflects its principled support for the Palestinian people and its longstanding position in favour of an independent, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
