The Foreign Office hopes an agreement over the Strait of Hormuz will lead to the United States and Iran resuming talks under a memorandum of understanding Islamabad helped mediate, the foreign office said on Thursday.
“We hope that the agreement on the Strait will pave the way for continuing dialogue, particularly the resumption of technical level talks between Iran and the United States,” foreign ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi told reporters.
PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Asim Munir to visit Saudi Arabia from August 6
The Foreign Office (FO) has announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will undertake an official visit to Saudi Arabia from August 6 to 8, accompanied by Field Marshal Asim Munir, while also rejecting India’s remarks on the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections as baseless.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during the visit.
He said the two leaders will discuss bilateral relations, matters of mutual interest and avenues for expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The spokesperson added that Pakistan continues to play a diplomatic role in efforts aimed at restoring stability in the Middle East. He said Oman has been playing a constructive role in the evolving regional situation and that Pakistan highly appreciates Muscat’s efforts.
Commenting on the AJK elections, Andrabi rejected India’s statements as baseless, saying the electoral process in Azad Kashmir was being conducted in a transparent manner. He added that India had no moral justification for making such remarks and could not divert attention from the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir by spreading what he described as misinformation regarding deaths in Azad Kashmir.
Responding to a question on Bangladesh, the Foreign Office spokesperson said the people of Bangladesh were fully capable of resolving their own affairs.
