FIA and NCCIA arrest 374 Chinese citizens without documents in Islamabad

A joint crackdown by the Federal Investigation Agency and the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Islamabad has resulted in the arrest of 374 Chinese nationals, according to sources.

The FIA detained 258 Chinese citizens under the Foreigners Act after they were reportedly unable to produce the required documents relating to their stay in Pakistan.

The Cyber Crime Investigation Agency arrested a further 116 Chinese nationals during action against illegal call centres operating in Islamabad.

Authorities have decided to hold the arrested Chinese nationals at Sparco Plaza in Gulberg Greens, which has been declared a sub-jail by the Islamabad Chief Commissioner.

The Chief Commissioner issued a notification earlier declaring Sparco Plaza a sub-jail for people arrested by the FIA. Under the order, FIA detainees can be held at the facility.

The notification states that the Director General of the FIA will be responsible for the security of the sub-jail and its prisoners.

The records of the facility will be maintained by an officer of Grade 17 or above, according to the notification.

The order declaring Sparco Plaza a sub-jail took effect immediately.

Sparco Plaza, also known as Sparco Twin Towers, was initially developed as a mixed-use commercial and residential project in Gulberg Greens, Islamabad.
