Another scandal of petty embezzlement in donations of Data Darbar under the administration of the Punjab Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department has come to light, it was reported on Thursday.
According to sources, donations collected in foreign currency were embezzled at Data Darbar.
Foreign currency dollars were converted into Indian currency and the donations disappeared.
The forensic report proved tampering of official records and the investigation process has been started.
Donations were embezzled by tampering with records at Data Darbar over the past five years.
The Auqaf and Religious Affairs Department has formed a high-level committee and started an inquiry.
Investigations have been started against former administrator of Data Darbar Sheikh Jamil and former manager Tahir Maqsood.
An inquiry has also been started against zonal administrators Gulab Irshad and Shahid Hameed Virk.
Secretary Auqaf Punjab Dr. Ehsan Bhatta said an inquiry is being conducted and departmental action will be taken after completing it soon.
The records of devotees’ money were tampered with, Secretary Auqaf confirmed.
