unjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated a 100-bed cancer centre at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, along with advanced medical facilities for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The newly inaugurated facilities include a PET-CT scanner, a cyclotron and a cryoablation machine for treating cancerous tumours. During her visit to Nishtar Hospital, Maryam Nawaz inspected the new facilities and reviewed the procedure used by the cyclotron machine.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique and Communications and Works Secretary Raja Jahangir gave the chief minister a detailed briefing about the facilities and treatment procedures.
Officials explained that the cryoablation technology can be used to destroy cancerous tumours with the help of a needle. The procedure uses extreme cold to target and eliminate abnormal tissue while limiting damage to surrounding areas.
Maryam Nawaz also met the first patient to undergo cancer treatment through the cryoablation machine at the facility. The 55-year-old woman, Musarrat Arshad from Kamalia, became emotional and broke down in tears after receiving successful treatment for cancer.
The chief minister comforted the woman and congratulated her on her recovery. She also expressed hope that the newly introduced technology would provide greater treatment opportunities for cancer patients in Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz said the cryoablation machine had been brought from China to provide modern cancer treatment facilities in the province. She assured patients that they should not remain worried about cancer treatment and that advanced medical services were being made available at the new centre.
