SNGPL’s plan to sell LPG cylinders at govt rate fails

The plan of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) to sell liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders at the government-mandated price has failed after distributors refused to supply LPG at the rate set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), it was reported on Thursday.

Despite the passage of two months, SNGPL has been unable to secure a supply of LPG cylinders, sources said.

Multiple rounds of negotiations were held between SNGPL officials and LPG distributors, but no agreement could be reached.

Distributors refused to supply LPG cylinders at the OGRA-mandated rate, citing a lack of price stability, sources added.

SNGPL last received a supply of LPG cylinders on August 3.

The company was supposed to sell LPG to consumers at Rs 280 per kilogram under the government mandated rate.

However, due to the non-availability of LPG cylinders, SNGPL could not provide the commodity to consumers at the prescribed price.

Meanwhile, LPG is currently being sold in the open market at around Rs 450 per kilogram, over 60% higher than the government mandated rate.
