Goods transporters announce wheel-jam strike from Oct 10

The All-Pakistan Goods Transporters Association has announced a wheel-jam strike across the country from October 10 over the non-acceptance of its demands, it was reported on Thursday.
A meeting of the All-Pakistan Goods Transporters Association was held under the chairmanship of President Nabil Mahmood Tariq in Lahore. Senior Vice President Haji Irfan Sultan, Vice President Mumtaz Ali Khan, Mirza Arshad Iqbal and other association officials attended the meeting.
The participants demanded relief for transporters under the Charter of Demand and called for the immediate release of containers seized during protests and sit-ins.

They also demanded compensation of Rs20,000 and Rs35,000 for affected transporters. The association called for an end to the stopping and fining of vehicles over sales tax invoices and demanded a reduction in diesel prices.
The transporters also called on the federal and provincial governments to fulfill commitments made during the previous strike.

The association announced that if its demands are not accepted and relief is not provided, transporters will completely suspend their operations from October 10.
