US President Donald Trump has described the situation in Iran as extremely serious, saying the country is facing a deep economic crisis and uncertainty over who is running the government, it was reported on Wednesday.
Speaking about developments in Iran, the US president said the country’s oil minister had also resigned. He claimed that another group within Iran’s leadership had been eliminated and said he believed the biggest problem was that no one knew who was in control of the country.
Trump said Iran was suffering from a severe economic crisis, with inflation having reached almost 300 percent, according to his remarks.
He also claimed that Iran’s oil minister had resigned and had said that the country had been left with neither an economy nor oil or other resources.
Trump also spoke about oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, saying that millions of barrels of oil had reached international markets through the waterway over the previous few days.
He said the volume of oil being transported was so high that at times it had exceeded levels seen before the war.
The US president said oil shipments were continuing despite the tensions in the region. He added that the impact of the continued flow of oil was being closely watched by global energy markets.
Trump’s remarks came as attention remained focused on Iran’s political leadership, economic conditions and the movement of oil through the Strait of Hormuz amid continuing regional tensions.
