LAHORE: Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman and Prime Minister’s Coordinator Allama Tahir Ashrafi has reaffirmed support for Pakistan’s policy on Saudi Arabia, stressing Muslim unity and the protection of Haramain Sharifain.
Addressing the Tazeem-e-Haramain Conference on Wednesday, Ashrafi said the gathering aimed to convey that Muslims stood united for the protection of the holy sites. He expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and said Pakistan supported unity across the Muslim Ummah.
Ashrafi claimed that six missiles had been fired in recent days, including four targeting Madinah, but Saudi Arabia had intercepted the attacks. He said there should be no leniency or concessions for the Houthis.
He expressed full support for PM Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir and Pakistan’s Foreign Office, adding that Pakistan’s commitment to protecting the holy sites would remain unchanged even without an agreement with Saudi Arabia.
Referring to the trilateral agreement signed with Saudi Arabia on Friday, Ashrafi welcomed remarks by the Iranian president and called for greater unity among Muslim countries. He said the Iranian president had described Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as his brother during a meeting.
Ashrafi said Saudi Arabia held a central place for Pakistan and reiterated that the Palestinian cause remained a key concern for the Muslim Ummah.
