Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez has questioned the selection policy for the upcoming ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup 2026, arguing that repeated selections of experienced players could limit opportunities for emerging cricketers.
The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced a 15-member squad for the tournament, scheduled to take place in Oman from November 5 to 14, with Farhan Yousuf continuing as captain.
Ten players from Pakistan’s 2025 U19 Asia Cup squad have been retained for the upcoming competition. Several players, including Ali Raza, Farhan Yousuf, Usman Khan and Abdul Subhan, have already gained considerable experience in international age-group cricket.
Hafeez believes Under-19 tournaments should focus on developing young cricketers and providing opportunities to new talent rather than prioritising victories through the repeated selection of established players.
He highlighted that approximately 400 players participate in regional Under-19 tournaments annually, warning that repeatedly favouring experienced youngsters could discourage aspiring cricketers.
Pakistan will enter the tournament hoping to defend their title after defeating India in the 2025 final.
