Romanian-born actor Sebastian Stan received two prestigious Golden Globe nominations for the 2025 awards, recognising his performances in two distinct genres.
He was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor for his portrayal of Donald Trump in the drama “The Apprentice” and for his role in the comedy/musical “A Different Man”.
Stan’s portrayal in “A Different Man” had earlier earned him the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance at the Berlinale this year.
In an interview with “Vanity Fair”, Stan expressed his surprise and excitement, stating, “It’s certainly surreal… I’m still sort of shaking from it.”
Reflecting on the moment he learned about the nominations, he said, “I actually woke up in the middle of the night at 4:00 and thought, Oh, okay, there’s an hour and a half. I fell asleep again, and then I got a call from my publicist.”
He added, “I’ve been sending a lot of pictures to my mom.”
In “The Apprentice”, directed by Ali Abbasi, Stan portrayed a young Donald Trump during the 1970s and 1980s, focusing on Trump’s ambition to become a real estate mogul in New York.
The film explored his rise to power and his relationship with Roy Cohn, a controversial lawyer.
Born in Constanța, Romania, Stan holds dual Romanian and American citizenship. If he wins, he would become the first Romanian actor to secure a Golden Globe, according to *Culturaladuba.ro*.
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 6, 2025. Stan is also being considered a strong contender for Oscar nominations later in the awards season.
