Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a spokesperson for the Indian Army, came under attack when BJP minister Vijay Shah referred to her as a “sister of terrorists”, sparking widespread outrage.
An Indian court has taken immediate notice and ordered legal proceedings against the minister.The minister alleged that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had “deployed the sister of terrorists, Colonel Qureshi, to teach a lesson”. His remarks triggered a strong backlash from the opposition Congress Party, which staged a protest in Madhya Pradesh.
During the demonstration, party workers blackened the nameplate bearing Vijay Shah’s name. Congress supporters chanted slogans such as “Modi Sarkar Murdabad” and “Vijay Shah Muradabad”. Following public uproar on social media, the minister issued an apology for his statement.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court took suo motu notice of the matter and directed the police to register a case against Vijay Shah for insulting Colonel Qureshi.
