Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Syed Mehdi Shah on Wednesday met Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan in Gilgit to review the situation in the province following recent floods.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the damage caused by heavy rains and the progress of restoration work on key highways, including the Naltar Expressway, Babusar Road and Ghizer Expressway.
Governor Mehdi Shah noted that several districts had suffered heavy loss of life and property due to the floods, adding that the prompt response of the Communications Department was commendable.
Minister Aleem Khan said he had personally visited Gilgit-Baltistan to inspect the restoration work and assured that the National Highway Authority (NHA) would remain active until the complete rehabilitation of affected highways.
“Work is underway with heavy machinery and the best workforce,” he said, emphasising that early restoration was made possible due to close coordination between the federal and provincial governments.
