Punjab floods at critical levels with nearly 50 lives lost; India flushes more water

The Indian High Commission has alerted Pakistan of water discharge and flood in the Sutlej River.

“Due to the release of flood water, there will be high level of flooding in the Sutlej River,” read India’s communique.

Following the warning, the Ministry of Water Resources has duly issued a flood alert in the concerned areas.

Health ministry issues advisory over post-flood disease risks

The federal health ministry has issued an emergency health advisory warning of the risk of waterborne and vector-borne diseases in flood-affected areas.

According to the advisory, there is a likelihood of cholera, typhoid and diarrhoea spreading in communities hit by floods. Stagnant water left behind by floodwaters could also trigger outbreaks of dengue, chikungunya and malaria.

The ministry has urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures to protect themselves from potential outbreaks and to follow health guidelines to minimise risks.

  • NDMA warns of extended monsoon rains till mid of September

    The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Thursday that the monsoon rains, ranging from moderate to heavy intensity, will continue until mid-September.

    NDMA official warned that the southern regions of Pakistan, including Punjab and Sindh, as well as some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, are at heightened risk due to ongoing rainfall and potential flooding.
