Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Monday visited flood-affected areas of Alipur Tehsil in Muzaffargarh district, where she met victims, distributed relief checks, and personally joined families at a local relief camp.
During her visit to the camp established at Government High School Alipur, Maryam Nawaz handed over compensation cheques to families of those who had lost their lives in the floods. She assured victims, particularly women, that their losses would be compensated.
In a gesture of solidarity, the chief minister served food to women and children, before sitting down to eat alongside the affected families. Children at the camp responded warmly, with young girls hugging her.
At the request of a girl, Maryam Nawaz also played cricket briefly and praised her batting skills. Later, in a makeshift classroom at the camp, she interacted with children, inquiring about their studies and encouraging them.
The chief minister also distributed gifts to flood-affected families and expressed gratitude to the Pakistan Navy for its support in relief operations.
Deputy Commissioner Muzaffargarh and the DG PDMA briefed Maryam Nawaz that 147 villages in the district, home to over 394,000 people, had been affected by the floods. Alipur Tehsil was the hardest-hit, with 26 villages submerged. Authorities have set up 37 relief camps and eight tent cities, where food, medicine, and other essential facilities are being provided.
