Afghan issue: 4-nation meeting, Moscow Format Summit scheduled on Oct 6-7

An important four-nation meeting on Afghanistan has been scheduled for October 6 in Moscow, while the 7th Moscow Format Summit will take place on October 7, where representatives from additional regional countries, including Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and India, will also participate, it was reported.

According to diplomatic sources, the countries of Pakistan, Russia, China, Iran, Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan will hold discussions in these meetings focused on the situation in Afghanistan, regional security, and counter-terrorism.

Earlier, a four-nation foreign ministers’ meeting on Afghanistan was held in New York on September 25. On September 28, Mohammad Sadiq Khan also visited Iran for consultations regarding the Afghan situation.

Pakistan will be represented by its Special Representative, Mohammad Sadiq Khan, who is also expected to attend the 7th Moscow Format Summit.

Afghanistan will be represented by its Acting Foreign Minister Mullah Amir Muttaqi, while Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and India will also send official representatives.

Diplomatic sources confirm that the 7th Moscow Format Summit on October 7 will cover critical issues, including security, counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics, and the challenges of Afghan refugees.

Russia, China, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and India are the member countries of the Moscow format talks.

The participants of the summit will also deliberate on peace and stability in Afghanistan, regional connectivity, and the promotion of regional cooperation.

Diplomatic sources said that for the first time, Afghanistan will be welcomed as a member country in the Moscow Format Summit, with acting Foreign Minister Mullah Amir Muttaqi attending the event.
