Umer Aalam has voiced his support for Saba Qamar following a controversy over her wearing a police uniform in a drama, a day after the actress responded to a petition filed against her.
The petition, submitted by Wasim Zawar at a sessions court in Lahore, alleges that no individual is legally allowed to wear a police uniform or display the badge of a Senior Police (SP) officer without official permission.
The issue came to light after a video circulated showing Saba Qamar in a dressing room wearing an SP uniform.
Addressing the controversy on Instagram, Saba wrote: “Dear Mr Chomu! Were you expecting her to play a police officer in a bridal outfit or a lawn suit with a badge?
“Because last I checked, characters are dressed according to the role, not your imagination.”

Reports noted that Saba wore the Punjab Police uniform as part of her costume for the 2023 drama Serial Killer, in which she portrayed Superintendent of Police Sarah Sikander.
The drama was produced with a valid no-objection certificate (NOC).
However, concerns arose after behind-the-scenes videos and photographs circulated on social media, outside of the drama’s official broadcast.
Taking to Instagram, Umer Aalam shared a story urging the petitioner to drop the case, calling Saba Qamar a pride of the industry.
The petitioner argued that Saba violated provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code related to impersonation and misuse of official insignia.
He claimed that such imagery could mislead the public and harm trust in the Punjab Police, framing her act as unlawful and disrespectful.
He also stated that an earlier request to register a case at Old Anarkali Police Station had not been acted upon, prompting the court filing.
Additional Sessions Judge Ilyas Rehan heard the petition and sought comments from the police, adjourning the proceedings until January 14.
Fans and fellow actors have expressed strong support for Saba, defending her use of the uniform as part of her professional role in the drama.
