Khawaja Asif criticises KP CM Sohail Afridi, calls for unity

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday issued a strong message on social media in response to a letter written by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sohail Afridi, expressing serious concerns over political conduct and its impact on national unity.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Khawaja Asif addressed KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, stating that repeated attacks on the federal capital have occurred under his leadership. He said such incidents undermine the authority of the state and create instability.

The defence minister alleged that the KP government, including the chief minister himself, is harming the unity of Pakistan through its actions and rhetoric. He criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers for using what he described as “extremely inappropriate and dirty language” on social media, claiming this behaviour takes place with the approval or encouragement of the party leadership.

According to Khawaja Asif, these actions are damaging constitutional offices and hurting inter-provincial respect and harmony. He stressed that political disagreements should not cross constitutional and ethical boundaries.

Concluding his message, the defence minister called on all political forces to collectively condemn such behaviour and work together to correct it, emphasizing the need for responsibility, restraint and unity in the national interest.
