Xi calls for stability with 4-point Middle East plan

Chinese President Xi Jinping has unveiled a four-point proposal aimed at promoting long-term peace and stability in the Middle East, emphasizing sovereignty, security, and balanced development.

The proposal was presented during his meeting with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Beijing, where both leaders discussed regional challenges and avenues for cooperation.

Xi stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and called for the creation of a comprehensive and sustainable security framework for the Middle East and Gulf region. He highlighted that all countries must respect each other’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security.

Underscoring the role of international law, Xi warned against global instability, stating that adherence to legal frameworks is essential to avoid a return to disorder in international relations. He also emphasized the need to protect civilians, infrastructure, and institutions across conflict-affected areas.

Another key aspect of his proposal focused on balancing development with security. Xi urged regional and global stakeholders to work collectively to foster economic growth while ensuring stability, noting that sustainable development is critical for lasting peace.

Separately, during talks with Pedro Sanchez, Xi discussed global economic cooperation. Sanchez rejected the idea of a “new Cold War” and stressed the importance of maintaining strong ties between Europe and China. He reaffirmed Spain’s support for dialogue, cooperation, and stable supply chains.
