LAHORE: All arrangements have been finalised for what is being described as the largest marathon and cycling event in the country’s history, organised under the Sports Board Punjab.
The Punjab Chief Minister National Marathon and Cycling Race 2026 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, drawing widespread participation from athletes and citizens alike.
More than 11,000 participants are expected to take part in the event, reflecting significant public interest and engagement. Provincial Minister for Sports Punjab, Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar, along with other provincial ministers, will attend as chief guests. Senior officials, including Vice Chairman Sports Board Punjab Malik Salman, Secretary Sports Punjab Muhammad Ali, and Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi, are also set to be present.
Race details
The main 21-kilometre marathon and cycling race will commence at 6am from Liberty Chowk, one of Lahore’s central locations. The same starting point will host a 5-kilometre marathon and cycling race specifically organised for women participants.
In addition to the competitive races, the event will feature a 2-kilometre family fun race aimed at encouraging broader community participation. A 1-kilometre wheelchair race has also been included, highlighting efforts to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for participants of all abilities.
According to the Youth Affairs and Sports Department Punjab, all logistical and operational arrangements have been completed. Organisers have confirmed that preparations have entered their final phase, with teams working to ensure smooth execution across all race categories.
