Hollywood star Charlize Theron has strongly criticized Timothée Chalamet over his recent remarks about ballet and opera, calling his comments “reckless” and dismissive of important art forms.
Chalamet had earlier faced backlash after claiming that “no one cares about” ballet and opera, describing them as dying art forms that no longer capture public interest. His statement, made during an interview in March 2026, drew criticism from both within and beyond the entertainment industry.
Responding to the controversy, Theron expressed disappointment and emphasized the need to support traditional performing arts. She remarked that such statements undermine art forms that already struggle for recognition and funding.

Theron further added that while advancements in artificial intelligence may impact certain areas of the film industry in the future, live performances such as dance remain irreplaceable. She noted that AI could potentially replicate on-screen acting but would not be able to replace the authenticity and emotion of a live stage performance.
She also stressed the importance of mutual respect within the arts community, urging people not to dismiss other creative disciplines.
Reflecting on her own experience with dance, Theron described it as one of the most demanding and disciplined art forms. She shared that it taught her structure, resilience, and a strong work ethic, despite the physical challenges involved.
The actress revealed that her training often pushed her to extremes, including enduring injuries and intense physical strain, highlighting the dedication required to excel in dance.
Her remarks have reignited the debate about the value of classical art forms in the modern entertainment landscape, with many supporting her stance on preserving and promoting ballet and opera for future generations.
