Poland questions US loyalty over Russia threat

Donald Tusk has questioned whether the United States would stand firmly by its allies in the event of a potential Russia attack, highlighting growing security concerns across Europe.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Tusk described the reliability of NATO as a critical issue, particularly for countries on Europe’s eastern flank. He warned that the possibility of aggression is not distant, stressing that the threat could emerge within months rather than years.

Speaking during an informal summit of European Union leaders in Nicosia, Tusk called for the bloc to evolve into a more cohesive and capable defence alliance. He emphasized the need for stronger coordination, improved military mobility, and practical defence tools to ensure real security.

His remarks come amid unease over the policies of Donald Trump, whose stance toward European allies has raised doubts about long-standing security commitments.

Tusk also pointed to the importance of reinforcing the EU’s collective defence mechanisms, suggesting that member states should deepen cooperation to better protect shared borders and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

European leaders at the summit are also expected to discuss ongoing global conflicts, energy challenges, and future budget priorities, as the region navigates an increasingly uncertain geopolitical landscape.

Earlier, Russia has reportedly received an invitation to participate in the upcoming G20 Summit in the United States, signaling a potentially significant diplomatic moment as global powers prepare to gather later this year.

According to Russian officials, the invitation extends to participation at the “highest level,” though it remains uncertain who will ultimately represent the country at the high-profile event. The summit is scheduled to take place in Miami on December 14–15 and is expected to bring together leaders from the world’s largest economies to discuss pressing international challenges.
