MOSCOW: Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that the concept of justice in present-day Ukraine has lost its meaning, describing it as a contradictory term.
Speaking on the 12th anniversary of the Odesa tragedy, she stated that violations of civil rights, legal irregularities, and corruption have significantly impacted the justice system in Ukraine.
Zakharova said the Ukrainian government had made commitments to complete investigations into the Odesa incident and bring those responsible to justice, but no substantial progress has been made so far.
She further claimed that European countries have continued to provide financial and moral support to Ukraine despite ongoing concerns regarding corruption and governance issues.
According to her, the developments following the 2014 political changes in Kyiv have had lasting effects on Ukraine’s legal and political systems.
The Odesa incident on May 2, 2014, resulted in dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries when clashes led to a fire in a building where protesters had taken shelter.
The Russian position maintains that the lack of a complete investigation into the incident remains an unresolved issue.
