CDF Asim Munir visits Iran for high-stakes regional peace talks

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has left for an official visit to Iran. Security sources confirmed the development on Friday.

The visit is focused on regional peace and security. It also includes discussions on the ongoing US–Iran situation. Diplomatic sources say stability in the Middle East will be a major agenda point.

Field Marshal Munir is expected to meet senior Iranian leaders. He will also hold talks with top security and political officials. Cooperation between Pakistan and Iran will be reviewed during the meetings.

Officials say this is a continuation of earlier high-level engagement. In his previous visit, Munir met Iran’s top leadership. He discussed regional stability and the importance of dialogue.

During that earlier visit, he met President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and senior defence officials. Both sides agreed on the need for de-escalation and peaceful solutions.

The discussions also focused on improving bilateral relations. Border security, regional connectivity, and counterterrorism cooperation were also part of the agenda.

Pakistan has repeatedly called for dialogue in regional conflicts. Islamabad says peaceful negotiation is the only way forward. Officials describe Pakistan’s role as supportive of diplomatic efforts.

The visit comes amid continued global attention on the US–Iran standoff. US President Donald Trump had earlier referenced a temporary ceasefire extension linked to diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also welcomed diplomatic progress in the region. He has supported continued engagement with international partners to reduce tensions.

Observers say Pakistan is trying to maintain a balanced diplomatic position. It is engaging both regional and global actors. The goal is to support stability and avoid further escalation.

Officials say the current visit may open new channels of communication. It may also strengthen Pakistan–Iran coordination on security and regional issues.

The talks are expected to continue over the coming days. More details will emerge after meetings conclude.
