Khamenei aide accuses Trump of “betraying diplomacy”

Tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified as both sides exchange sharp statements amid ongoing nuclear negotiations, while military preparations and maritime warnings add to regional instability.

A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader accused US President Donald Trump of “betraying diplomacy,” saying Washington continues to impose pressure through naval deployments and strict negotiating demands. The adviser claimed the United States is not genuinely committed to reaching a peaceful agreement.

On the US side, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington is fully prepared to resume military strikes on Iran if nuclear talks fail. Speaking at a regional security forum in Singapore, he stated that the US maintains sufficient military capability and global readiness to act if required.

Hegseth added that the United States is continuing to expand its defence production capacity to ensure long-term operational readiness. He also stressed that Washington remains engaged in multiple global theatres despite the Iran situation.

At the same time, the US Navy has issued a high-level maritime warning regarding the Strait of Hormuz, describing the security situation in the region as critical. Shipping operators have been advised to avoid high-risk zones and  maintain constant coordination with naval authorities due to ongoing military activity and concerns over possible mine threats.

The advisory also warned that vessels suspected of involvement in hostile maritime activity could face defensive action from US forces, further raising tensions in the strategically vital waterway.

Meanwhile, the White House has reiterated that any potential nuclear agreement with Iran must meet strict US conditions. Officials said President Trump remains firm that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons and that any deal must align with American strategic interests.

The US administration also indicated that discussions include broader regional security issues, including the status of key maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, which is essential for global oil transport.

As diplomatic efforts continue, both Washington and Tehran appear entrenched in their positions, with negotiations facing significant obstacles. The situation remains volatile, with concerns growing over possible escalation if talks collapse.
