Pakistan reach U-18 Asia Cup semis after 5–2 win over Bangladesh

Pakistan booked their place in the semi-finals of the Under-18 Asia Cup 2026 after defeating Bangladesh 5-2 in an exciting pool match at the tournament being held in Kakamigahara, Japan, from May 29 to June 6 under the auspices of the Asian Hockey Federation.

Pakistan made a strong start, with Abdullah opening the scoring in the third minute of the match. He went on to score two goals, while Adeel, Asam, and Muhammad Yahya added one goal each to complete Pakistan’s tally of five goals.
For Bangladesh, Tarek Islam and Monna Islam scored one goal each, but their efforts were not enough to stop Pakistan’s dominant display.
Pakistan’s forwards made excellent use of their scoring opportunities throughout the match, while the midfield and defensive units maintained control for most of the contest. The convincing victory underlined Pakistan’s credentials as one of the strongest contenders for the championship title.
Muhammad Yahya was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
With this victory, Pakistan advanced to the semi-finals, where they are set to face their traditional rivals, India, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Congratulating the team on their achievement, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), praised the players and management for their discipline, determination, and commitment. He said the success was the result of the hard work of the players, coaches, and support staff, who are striving to restore Pakistan hockey’s lost glory on the international stage.
He described the team’s qualification for the semi-finals as a significant milestone that would further encourage the development of junior hockey in the country. The national side will now focus on maintaining its winning momentum as it prepares for the high-stakes semi-final against India, with the ultimate goal of reaching the final and lifting the championship trophy.
