Probe widens into escape of 14 Adiala Jail prisoners

RAWALPINDI: Authorities have expanded the investigation into the escape of 14 undertrial prisoners from Adiala Jail after their court appearance, with police now examining mobile phone data and call records of detained police personnel.

According to police sources, investigators are also reviewing whether the prisoners who escaped from Kahuta Court were re-handcuffed after meeting visitors during court proceedings.

Sources said officials deployed on the prison van with government-issued weapons are also being questioned as part of the inquiry.

Investigators are further assessing whether standard operating procedures for presenting high-risk prisoners in court were properly followed.

Following the incident, Rao Abdul Karim took immediate notice and ordered action against those responsible.

In this regard, SP Headquarters Mudassar Iqbal was removed from his post and directed to report to Lahore, while DSP Headquarters Imtiaz Ahmad was suspended with immediate effect.

The IG Punjab has also sought a detailed report on the incident from Rawalpindi Region RPO Babar Sarfraz as the investigation continues.
