Aleema says administration making legal decisions instead of courts

PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan has said that the government has limited the independence of the courts after 27th Constitutional Amendments.

Talking to media outside Anti-Terrorism Court in Rawalpindi, Aleema Khan said that the judiciary had been brought under government control and now authorities, rather than courts, were deciding who should receive legal relief and who should remain imprisoned.

Aleema warned that political victimization would not remain limited to Imran Khan and would but could eventually affect every Pakistani citizen.

“The people responsible, will leave the country on the first available flight, but ordinary Pakistanis will continue to suffer from injustices of the rulers,” she said.

Aleema restated that Imran Khan had repeatedly urged supporters to stand against what he called injustices. She said peaceful protest was a constitutional right and an essential democratic tool to force public pressure.

Referring to the events of November 26, she alleged that PTI lawmakers and family members were stopped at 26 Number Chungi while attempting to travel to Adiala Jail, with roads blocked by authorities.

According to her, once public pressure increased, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi sent a message through PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan offering to facilitate a meeting between Imran Khan and his sister Noreen Niazi if a formal request was submitted.

Aleema said the family rejected the offer, arguing that their demand was not for a single meeting but for the restoration of all legal and constitutional rights of the PTI founder. She added that the family had been demanding for the past five months that Imran Khan be shifted to a hospital for a medical examination and urged the party to make the same demand.

Imran Khan’s sister further alleged that the government had falsely claimed a meeting would be arranged, saying the family only learned through television reports that no such arrangement had materialized.

Aleema Khan maintained that the PTI founder’s family would continue to press for the restoration of all his rights and called on the party leadership to adopt the same position, insisting that securing a single prison meeting was not an adequate solution. She said the family’s primary objective was to ensure all of Imran Khan’s rights were restored, after which the party could continue its efforts for his release.
