AJK Election Commission extends Mirpur election schedule by one day

MUZAFFARABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has revised the election schedule for the upcoming Mirpur polls, extending key stages of the process by one day.

Under the updated timetable, the last date for candidates to withdraw their nomination papers has been moved to July 4, while the final list of contesting candidates will now be published on July 5.

According to the revised schedule, election symbols will be allotted to candidates on July 6. The Election Commission will also release the final list of candidates along with their allotted symbols on the same day.

Assistant Election Commissioner Zeeshan Khalil said the election schedule had been extended by one day at each stage to facilitate the electoral process. He added that all arrangements were being completed in accordance with the prescribed rules and the election process was continuing smoothly.

Khalil further stated that polling would be held 21 days after the publication of the final list of candidates, in line with the electoral regulations.

The Election Commission did not specify the reason for revising the timetable but reaffirmed its commitment to conducting the election in a transparent, orderly and timely manner.
