Punjab Bar cancels licences of 361 ‘lawyers’ over fake degrees, orders legal action

The Punjab Bar Council (PBC) has taken disciplinary action against fake degree-holding lawyers and cancelled the licences of 361 such lawyers who were found to be practising law on the basis of fraudulent credentials.

According to the Punjab Bar Council, cases have been registered against the fake lawyers whose licences were cancelled.

The council said the action was taken over fake degrees issued by Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai University. It added that 36 lawyers who admitted their wrongdoing and tendered apologies were imposed a collective fine of Rs550,000.

The disciplinary action was approved by Executive Committee Chairman Fakhar Hayat Awan.

The Punjab Bar Council said the move reflects its commitment to maintaining professional standards and ensuring that only qualified and duly licensed advocates are allowed to practise law.
